  8.  AB    OBJECTIVES: To stimulate, encourage and support youth through Sports and
  9.        Cultural activities to cope with AIDS effects. METHODS: Identification
  10.        of Sports/Cultural activities done in the area and problems encountered.
  11.        Build up local Clubs/Clans/Societies and committees. The youth gradually
  12.        come together to form Clubs/Socities. They do not only talk about
  13.        Sports/Cultural activities but also discuss about the fatal disease
  14.        AIDS. 20% of the Youth in Rakai District are HIV+. They realize the need
  15.        to know more about HIV/AIDS and request AIDS Education. 12 Groups
  16.        comprising of 503 youth have received AIDS Education. Encourage positive
  17.        youth co-operation against HIV/AIDS infection through training peer
  18.        groups. RESULTS: Local committees/Clubs set up to plan, organize and
  19.        implement activities. Bordom reduced. Time used constructively as there
  20.        are things to occupy youth. Increased motivation to discuss positively
  21.        HIV/AIDS control. Increased youth group requests for AIDS Education
  22.        Seminars/Workshops. Promotion of co-operation, team spirit and
  23.        development of desirable social qualities. CONCLUSION: Promoted
  24.        awareness and reactions on many things that happen in life e.g.
  25.        diseases, poverty, redundancy, orphans etc.
